Teaching the recognition of color words is a great way to begin the development of early reading skills with young students. Each lesson plan is divided into eight sections. For each color lesson, there is a color poem and a color story that can be used as an introduction. The sections may be used as mini-lessons during the time period allotted to teaching each color.
This resource has been developed to provide an enjoyable way to help student recognition of nine colors and their upper and lower case color words.
During this process of color and color word recognition other concepts can be taught and reinforced informally.
They are the following:
• Visual Discrimination
• Word Configuration or Word Shape
• Initial Consonants
• Consonant Blends and Digraphs
• Rhyming
• Classification
• Brainstorming
• Motor Skills
• Association
