The purpose of this book is to introduce these unique Canadians to students in
the classroom. These life stories of Canadians-young and old, male and female, from all across the country will provide your students with solid role models. Heroes in times of disaster, medicine and science, sports, personal accomplishments, and the everyday heroes that care for others are all included to provide a balanced view of what makes a person stand out in the crowd.
Some have gained fame while others have not. It is hoped that the students will read and enjoy the accomplishments of these special Canadians. It is the premise of this book that good role models are very necessary for young people to admire, respect, and follow. This book contains 21 stories pertaining to Canadians who have demonstrated the
qualities shown by a hero.
Each story has follow-up activities that have been developed to promote reading
comprehension skills, vocabulary skills, and language skills.
The paragraphs in the stories and words in the vocabulary exercises have been
numbered for teacher and student accessibility to answers. The numbers are found in
brackets after the last word in each paragraph and after each word in the vocabulary
