Students will extend their knowledge of graphing with the introduction of histograms, double bar graphs, and scatter plots. · They will extend their knowledge gained from analyzing a given graph by applying the data to a large population. Students will also examine how to conduct a random sample. They will record their data in decimal form, as well as looking at percentages.
Students will examine trends and extend them to a larger population as opposed to looking at a finite set of data. Students will conduct an analysis of mutual fund growth over a time period to connect math to the outside world.
Students will survey the student population using appropriate methods of surveying and applying their findings. They will formulate questions and tabulate the results in various ways.
Probability:
Students will increase their use of basic skills such as multiplication, addition, subtraction, and division using basic games of chance. They will conduct experiments using coins, dice, cards, and real-life situations.
Along with Activity Twenty-One, you may wish to have the students play the original game of Yahtzee! Instructions are available on the Internet at http://www.yahtzee.com.
