Additional information:

Heritage Day is celebrated on the third Monday in February. This day was established as a day in which we can appreciate our cultures, customs, and traditions.

Discuss places where students can visit to find out about their heritage; why it is important to restore old historical buildings; ways we can preserve things from the past.

Your students may bring in an artifact that has been handed down in the family and explain why.

Stories can be written about:
  • family customs and traditions;
  • a story that a grandparent has told;
  • something that has happened in the students life he/she would want to share with his/her children.

Illustrations may be made of historic buildings in the community.

Plan to take your students to visit a historical building, museum, art gallery etc. on Heritage Day.

Your students will enjoy researching and completing their own family tree.
